Tại Hội nghị thế giới về tàu cao tốc lần thứ bảy mới đây ở Bắc Kinh, ông Zhang Shuguang - một chuyên gia của Bộ Đường sắt Trung Quốc cho hay, nước này có công nghệ chế tạo tàu hỏa cao tốc có thể đạt vận tốc từ 500 km/giờ trở lên vào năm 2050.
Ông Zhang cho biết, tại cuộc chạy thử nghiệm trên tuyến đường sắt cao tốc Bắc Kinh-Thượng Hải hôm 3/12 vừa qua, con tàu mang số hiệu CRH-380A đã lập kỷ lục mới với tốc độ lên tới 486,1 km/giờ. Theo nhận định của ông Zhang, khi đạt tốc độ 450 km/giờ, tàu chạy êm hơn cả khi chuyển động với vận tốc 400 km/giờ. Ông tin rằng trong 40 năm tới, tàu sẽ đạt tốc độ 500 km/giờ. Vận tốc của tàu cao tốc đã tăng từ 200 km/giờ (kỷ lục mà người Nhật Bản đã thiết lập từ năm 1964) lên 350 km/giờ trong năm nay. Hiệu trưởng trường Đại học Bắc Kinh Jiaotong - Ning Bin cho hay, đường sắt cao tốc có thể đáp ứng vận tốc của tàu cao tốc đạt trên 500 km/giờ. Với sự phát triển của vật liệu, phát điện và công nghệ chế tạo bánh tàu, vận tốc của tàu cao tốc có thể tăng thêm 150km nữa. Theo Giám đốc điều hành Viện Nghiên cứu Kỹ thuật Đường sắt Nhật Bản Norimichi Kumagai, đối với đường sắt cao tốc Nhật Bản, hệ thống đường ray có thể thích hợp với tàu có vận tốc 400 km/giờ, nhưng khi vận tốc đạt trên 500 km/giờ, tốt hơn nên sử dụng tàu chạy bằng từ tính. |

Welcome to a portable cooking experience like you’ve, perhaps maybe, never seen before. This is “Roll-Up”, an induction cooktop which separates induction coils and electronic circuits in order to make a very thin, very elegant solution for mobile cooking. Each coil is made small enough so that the heating part of the Roll-Up can be folded. Electronic circuits are placed in a “fancy looking hard-drive like case.” Plus – sensors!
When a pot (or other item to be heated up) is placed on the heating surface, pressure sensors in every induction coil register where the pot is sitting and only those sensors touched activate with heat.
Roll-Up was recently awarded a 2010 Red Dot Concept Design award in the category of Domestic Aid. Congratulations GB!

An area this is happening at a rapid rate is in the convergence of physical and digital experiences. Think of how many apps on you iPhone have skins that look like physical buttons. Sometimes the skeuomorph is a design cop out, and sometimes it helps us bridge the gap between experiences to intuitively know how to use something without any experience. Would Guitar Hero be any fun with out a guitar shaped controller? To that end, Sean brings up the iPad DJ app, which mimics a real turntable visually. Its not what you need, but its what you want!

In his one-man show "Long Story Short," where comedian Colin Quinn recounts the history of the world in 75 minutes, he does a wickedly funny bit about the lengths illegal immigrants will go through to arrive in a disappointing America. The gist of it is that they'll swim rivers, climb mountains and run down roads to get here--then get a job at a U.S. gym picking up towels and watching Americans swim fake rivers, climb fake mountains and run on treadmills.
Anyways my point is, a gym can't be an easy thing to clean, what with the amount of germs in there and all the machinery and surfaces you have to wipe down. Ditto for a hospital or a daycare center. Addressing this is a Delaware-based company called Sanosil's Halo Fogger, designed by Philadelphia design firm Bresslergroup.
You basically wheel the Halo Fogger into a room, and then it emits a non-toxic cloud of cleanliness that reportedly kills 99.99% of germs.
[The Halo Fogger] transforms Sanosil non-toxic disinfectant into a fine mist of ionized particles, and distributes it throughout a room disinfecting every exposed surface, including the surfaces that regular cleaning can't reach. The Halo assures a homogenous distribution of disinfectant on all surfaces including high touch areas, around doors, behind window treatments and even under desks, and is safe for use around all electronic equipment.
The advantages are that you don't have to wipe anything down (which can actually lead to you just spreading germs around), it's less work, it gets those hard-to-reach places, and it reportedly costs less than $1.50 to clean 1,000 square feet.
As it stands, the Halo Fogger still needs someone to wheel it around and push the button. This thing is just begging for the droid treatment.

Constantly tinkering and improving his product, Alon's describes this one-off as being the product of a "nerdgasm" over the new film's release. The celebrated fantasy vehicle known as the light cycle has no less given birth to thousands of sketchbooks, and hardcore sci-fi fans alike. We applaud Alon for being brave and resourceful enough to take those naive futuristic thumbnail drawings and renderings, and actually having gone off to develop a working product and company born from excitement and imagination.
