Woe to those design objects that make a splash at the festivals, rack up some awards, and are then never seen, let alone purchased, by the majority of consumers.

One object that will hopefully avoid that fate is Christopher Born's Lichtsack, which dates from 2003 but has recently been picked up by online furniture retailer fashion4home, which ought to give it a wider American release. The nifty lovechild-of-a-lamp-and-a-sandbag can hold its light in a variety of positions, and f4h is selling it for a reasonable US $49. A European online retailer called Singulier has the Lichtsack in a cooler variety of colors (see below) but the style will cost ya--they've got it for 59 Euros, or about 80 bucks.
